When Pogo News gets a little stale, we don't have the heart to throw it out, so we move it here to this page.  It's ever so much more humane.  Don'tcha think?

Pogofest is Upon Us!

March 24, 2006 - It's March 31 through April 2!  It's a gathering of Pogo intelligentsia (and just plain swamp lovers) down in Waycross, Georgia.  It's written about in more detail over on this website.  It's where you wanna be.

They're All Gone! (We weren't kidding!)

February 5, 2006 - We are now sold out of the Italian Pogo book we've been hawking on this site.  If you ordered one and haven't received it, it'll be to you shortly.  If you didn't order one, you're outta luck.  If we come across any more, we'll announce it here...but we don't think we'll be coming across any more.  Sorry to those of you who missed out.

Only a Few Left! (No kidding!)

January 3, 2006 - And by "a few," we mean two.  We're talking about the Italian Pogo book which we've been selling on this site.  We had a small crate of them to sell and we did, and now we only have two copies left to sell.  So if you want one of them, order today.

Happy Walt Kelly Day!

August 25, 2005 - Walter Crawford Kelly was born 92 years ago today.  If you've found your way to this website, you probably know who he was and what he did.  (If by some chance you don't, this page would be a good starting point.)  So hoist a glass of whatever it is you're drinking and thank the man for all the wonderful cartoons 'n' creatures.  Even folks who never met him miss him.

Selby Kelly (1917-2005)

July 5, 2005 - Word has reached us that Walt Kelly's third wife, Selby Kelly, has died at age 87 due to complications of a stroke.  Selby was an animator, an author, an activist in the screen cartoonists' union and, of course, a lover of all things Pogo.  As a certain comic strip once taught us, "Don't take life so seriously, folks.  It ain't no-how's permanent."

Washington Post on Walt

June 1, 2005 - In case you missed it, the Washington Post ran a fine article recently on our Mr. Kelly and his swamp critters.  Here's a link to read said article.

March Madness

March 11, 2005 - Those of you who've asked where to get the Italian Pogo book we mentioned last year have your answer now: We're sellin' them for as long as our supply holds out.  This may not be long so order quickly.  And on a somewhat different subject, there's more info on this year's Pogofest over at Steve Thompson's fine Pogo page.  Go there, then go to Georgia.

A Time to Gather...
February 12, 2005 - We're looking ahead to this year's gala Pogofest, down in Waycross, Georgia, just a hoot 'n' a holler from swamp country.  Pogo fanciers from all over will be gathering April 1-2 down there.  Keep the date open and watch this space (and this one) for additional details.

Instant Pogo Collection
December 6, 2004 - Want to buy a boatful of wonderful Pogo collectibles in one swell foop?  The Just Kids Nostalgia Dealer is currently auctioning a large mass of Pogo goodies in one big lot.  It's over on eBay at this link...but you'd better hurry.  The auction closes in a couple of days.

Deck the Halls...
December 5, 2004 - Starting sometime this week, this site will  be featuring some of the most memorable Pogo Christmas strips...our gift to you for the month of December.

Link to '65 Flashback

November 22, 2004 - In 1965, Walt Kelly toured Vietnam and his tour was covered by Stars and Stripes, the military newspaper.  That publication's website recalls that visit with this photo and this article.

Pogo Practices Politicks

October 26, 2004 - With only a week 'til Election Day, your ever-lovin' Pogo site celebrates any traces of Democracy that may occur!  We offer for your kind inspection, a fine array of voting-type strips that sprang from the brush of Mr. Walt Kelly hisself, done back in the days when votes and comic strips both occurred on paper.  Check in all week for more Pogo election classics!

Happy Walt Kelly Day!

August 25, 2004 - Yep, it's that time of year again: Time to celebrate the natal day of one Walter Crawford Kelly, Jr.  And if you found your way to this site, you know who that is and why we celebrate.  Matter of fact, you probably have a dandy party hat on already.  So join us in raising a stein of whatever you drink to a great guy and a great cartoonist.  We could use more like that.

Pogo Postal Problems

August 3, 2004 - We're having computer problems here at pogopossum.com.  Our incoming e-mail (the stuff you send us) is working jes' fine but for technical-type reasons, we haven't been able to answer any of it lately.  This is being rectified and soon, if we owe you a reply, you'll be hearing from us.  Sincere apologies for the delay.

Pogo for Prez
June 26, 2004
- In case you haven't heard: Pogo Possum (perennial presidential poseur) has thrown the hat he hardly ever wears into the ring as a candidate for the highest office in this here land.  The nominatin' festivities occurred at Pogofest in Waycross, Georgia, and you can get all the breath-taking details overt Steve Thompson's website.  From all reports, the '04 Pogofest was a Pogo-fancier's fancy, and Pogo accepted his candidacy with uncommon grace, humility and a side of grits.  Early returns suggest he'll carry at least as many states as Ralph Nader and spend a whole lot less money.

Pogofest: The Place to Be!
March 23, 2004
- This coming weekend, March 26 and 27, Pogo fanciers from far and wide will be congregating, as they tend to do each year, in Waycross, Georgia for the annual Pogofest.  There, in and around the Okefenokee Swamp Park, they'll be singing Pogo songs, talking Pogo talk and parading in Pogo parades.  The Guest-of-Honor-type Person will be editorial cartoonist Sam Rawls, aka "Scrawls."  And rumor has it that Pogo hisself may put in an appearance, mayhaps to accept the presidential nomination of the Perloo Party.  In any case, if you want to eat catfish, tour the swamp or just hang tight with fellow Pogo lovers, go visit this website.

Preview Peek at Panini Pogo!
January 21, 2004 - Here's an advance peek at the front cover of the new Italian Pogo book we talked about below.  As mentioned, this is part of a series saluting great comic art, and you can see the other books by clicking on this link to the website of La Repubblica.  Over there, you'll see the entire list of titles for this splendid series and you'll see that our favorite possum is in good company,  surrounded by some very fine comics, indeed.  If you'd like to know more about the company publishing this book, here's a link to the Panini website.

New Pogo Book in Italy!
January 13, 2004
- We got the website up and online, just in time to bring you the news that there's a new Pogo book about to come out.  On February 6, 2004, the publishing giant Panini Italy, working in conjunction with the newspaper, La Repubblica, is bringing out a Pogo book in Italian.  The great classic comic artists are passionately admired in Italy, and Panini has created a beautiful book.  To be packaged in a special edition of the newspaper, the book will be 270 pages, printing the entire Pogo: Prisoner of Love and Impollutable Pogo, with much full-color Kelly art in the introductory pages and on the covers.  We will see if we can put a picture up here in a week or so.
