images on their projects. In reply, we usually send them something like

The copyrights and trademarks for Pogo are owned by a family
corporation, for which we, Kelly Studios, are the business entity. We grant licenses for use of Walt Kelly's work as we see fit, but tend to adhere
to the following general policy:
While we wish to make this legendary cartoonist's work available to the public
as often as possible, due to the strongly independent nature of Pogo as
one man's voice, we rarely allow it to be used to forward another's point of
view. Instead, we license Mr. Kelly's work for use within the context of his creative
intent, or discussions about his life, his work, his philosophy, and the history
or analysis of his creative output.
We do not authorize the use of the famous "We Have Met The Enemy And He Is Us"
cartoons in a context that suggests Walt Kelly or Pogo represents or endorses a
particular group's cause.
That being said, we hope that none of this will dissuade you from your affinity
for the wit of Walt Kelly, and that your desired use falls within our boundaries. We hope to hear from you again!
